Jazz Carlin will turn her attentions to competitive open water swimming this summer after being named in Britain's European marathon squad.

Carlin, a silver medallist in both the 400m and 800m freestyle at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, joins an eight-strong team that will swim in Loch Lomond at this summer's European Championships.

Carlin has been training for this open water challenge since last year, and team leader Bernie Dietzig believes she will be a valuable addition to the team.

"Jazz has worked very hard to transition from the pool to the open water so it will be a great opportunity for her to take on this new challenge," said Dietzig.

"The swimmers we have been able to select for this squad will be really exciting to watch.

"We have the highly experienced open water swimmers with proven experience at performing when it matters, right through to young talent."

Carlin is joined in the squad by Jack Burnell, who has already picked up two medals in this year's FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series.

Also named are Alice Dearing, Polly Holden, Caleb Hughes, Danielle Huskisson, Hector Pardoe and Tobias Robinson.

The open water swim events at Glasgow 2018 will take place between August 8 and 12, and includes races over 5k, 10k and 25k distances.
