Katie Ledecky won six gold medals at the 2017 World Championships to become the most decorated female swimmer on the world stage. It took her overall Worlds gold tally to 14, overtaking Missy Franklin's 11.

Freestyle specialist Ledecky dominated at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games a year earlier, winning gold over 200m, 400m and 800m as well as the 4x200m freestyle relay. Four years earlier, she won her first Olympic gold in the 800m free as a 15-year-old at London 2012.

Ledecky holds world records in the women's 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle, and in the summer of 2018 signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with TYR.
