Size Guide Tips for Buying Swimwear Online
- 14 Aug 2018
Choosing the correct swimsuit size when shopping for swimwear online can be a daunting decision for new swimmers, but it doesn't need to be.
At ProSwimwear, we're here to help you feel confident in your sizing choice, and we've got loads of information to help you make the right decision.
All competitive swimwear brands have their own sizing guides, so it's important to remember not to base your choice on supermarket or department store swimsuit sizes.
Fashion swimwear is also designed to fit in a different way to sports and fitness swimwear, so don't base your size choice on anything you have bought in the past. Instead, follow these simple tips below before buying your next swimsuit from ProSwimwear.
Check the swimsuit size chart before you buy swimwear online
ProSwimwear stock more than 30 of the world's leading swimwear brands, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find the right swimsuit sizes.
On every page featuring an item of swimwear, we've included the brand-specific sizing guide for you to reference before ordering.
Don't use a Speedo size chart for other brands
As one of the world's leading swimwear brands, it's easy to find a Speedo size chart anywhere online.
However, one of the mistakes novice or leisure swimmers often make is to assume that these sizes are universal across all swimwear brands.
Speedo swimsuit sizes may well be different to a similar item made by another brand, so only use these guides if you're planning on buying Speedo swimwear.
At ProSwimwear, we have a full set of Speedo size charts available to view when you look at any Speedo swimwear item on our website. You can find Speedo swimsuit sizes for all racing and training swimsuits, as well as open water wetsuits, tri wear and accessories including caps and fins.
Make sure you take your swimwear measurements properly
Swimsuit size charts provide excellent guidance, but it's also important that you have your most recent accurate measurements to hand.
Don't just base your measurements on what size clothes you are wearing, or the measurements of an old swimsuit. It's always best to get out your tape measure, and do everything properly. Here are some helpful tips.
Ask a friend to measure you: It's always easier to have someone else do your measurements for you. If you have a friend or family member who can assist, then make sure you ask them for their help.
Don't measure over clothes: It may sound obvious, but many people will take their measurements over trousers or baggy jumpers. Taking measurements should always be done on bare skin for the most accurate results.
Use a material tape measure: Don't try to save time by using a ruler or a metal tape measure. Material tape measures are soft and easy to wrap around the body, and should lay flat on the skin without making a mark or indent. If you don't have a soft tape measure, you could try using a non-stretching string or similar material, then carefully match it against a metal tape measure or ruler. But this requires concentration and accuracy.
