Tavistock Swimming Club Members Compete At National Level

Four members of the Tavistock Swimming Club (Devon) attended their first national-level competition in Sheffield recently. The atmosphere at a large swimming event is something to be witnessed, there is nothing else quite like it and lads thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They got to mix with medallists and top UK athletes at the event where several British records were broken.

The four senior swimmers Keiran Rookers, James Anderson, Cameron McGurk and Nathaniel Rooks travelled up to the National Winter Meet in Sheffield to compete in the 4x100m medley relay.  Nathaniel started strong with the backstroke, clocking a time close to his personal best. Then came the changeover where brother Kieran swam the next leg of 100m breaststroke, enabling the team to maintain a decent position.

Next up was James Anderson, swimming a superb performance in the 100m butterfly portion of the relay, almost topping his personal best, leaving the last swim of 100m freestyle for Cameron McGurk.

Kieran Rookes also swam individually in the 50m Breaststroke event for the first time at a national competition. He managed to qualify for the event at the ASA South West Winter Championships at Millfield school (Somerset) in November. Kieran completed the event in a respectable position for his first big national competition, finishing inside the top 50 of 90 swimmers.

A hearty congratulations to the guys from Tavistock Swimming Club. We hope to see you back at more national and international competitive events in the future!
