Last week saw the launch of the new ParalympicsGB “Road To Rio” campaign. They're aiming to raise extra funds for the GB Paralympic team before they head out to Brazil this September. The fundraising campaign, backed by celebrities including Eddie Izzard and Clare Balding, has been named “Supercharge Paralympics GB” and aims to get the British public to donate money in support of our athletes.
Derby City swimmer Lewis White has been selected for the British Para-swimming team for the upcoming IPC European Championships. Fifteen year old Lewis, born without his right hand, is a rising star in the swimming world and has been swimming at some serious international events. Training alongside GB athlete Adam Peaty, he brought home three gold medals from the Brazil Paralympic School Games when he attended last year. White specialises in backstroke and freestyle, swimming in the S9 category. He quickly followed those victories with some superb performances at the National Para Swimming Championships in Manchester, winning another three gold medals.
Jemma Lowe is a British international swimmer, specialising in butterfly. She's British record holder for the 100m and 200m butterfly and competed for Great Britain at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. She's also competed at numerous national and European championships, with several years of competing in the American college swimming leagues during her scholarship at the University of Gainesville in Florida.
