Michael Phelps Wins 3 Events at US National Championships

Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps was back in the pool at the U.S Winter national champs last week, picking up three wins in as many days.  Phelps stormed home to victory in the 200 metre butterfly, clocking a time of 1:56.11. Chase Kalisz was a mere 1.01 seconds behind in 2nd place and Dakota Hodgson came third with a time of 1:59.09 – that's 3 whole seconds behind Phelps!

The American record for 200metre butterfly (Currently held by Phelps) is 1:52.20 and the world record (again held by Phelps) is 1:51.51. It just goes to show how fast a swimmer Phelps is, although he's a few seconds off his personal best he is still coming out on top.

The professional swimmer from Maryland, USA also competed and won the 100m butterfly event a few days before that and also swam his way to victory in the 200m individual medley!

At this point Phelps and coach Bob Bowman will have their sights firmly set on the Rio Olympics next summer and will be using this event to gauge his performance and conditioning in preparation for the event.

Phelps has been hard at work this past year. Not only has the elite athlete been training for his Olympic comeback, he's also struggled with personal challenges, started his own chain of international swimming schools and even developed his own range of competitive swimwear and swimming products under the brand name “MP” (Michael Phelps).

Watch Phelps swim to victory in this video of the 100m Butterfly event. He's wearing the MP XPRESSO Jammers and sporting the MP K180 goggles - available now at ProSwimwear.
