Here at ProSwimwear we're interested in all types of swimming and one sport that's caught our eye recently is SwimRun. The Scandinavian adventure sport has made it's way over to the UK quite recently, with several events scheduled for the summer season in 2016.
SwimRun is not for the faint-hearted, the events take place over a cross-country course where you switch between swimming and running several times during the race. So, you must swim in your trainers and run in your wetsuit! You're allowed certain pieces of extra gear like hand paddles and buoyancy aids to help you along in your journey.
If you're interested, there are a few SwimRun events in the UK this year that are worth checking out. LoveSwimRun are putting on an event in Snowdonia, North Wales on June 25th that looks absolutely stunning, and there's still time to enter!
Here's the write-up from the event website:
“Swim in the deep clear waters of Llyn Padarn and run beneath the majestic summit of Snowdon – Love SwimRun Llanberis will take place in Padarn Country Park, home to some of the most spectacular scenery in North Wales!”
“Love SwimRun Llanberis will take place in Padarn Country Park, Llanberis, Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. The multi transition course at Llanberis in North Wales will involve a total of approximately 3.5km of swimming and 12.5km of running. The running route will take in some of Snowdonia’s most stunning scenery and views on mainly off road terrain, including beautiful woodland, a historic monument and a tough climb up into the old slate quarries that tower above the valley. The swim sections will all take place in Llyn Padarn, entering and exiting the lake at various locations, so by the time you reach the finish line you will have swum the entire length and explored every corner! The course will be fully marked and the finalised route and map will be published one month prior to the event date.”
The good news is, if you're thinking of getting in to SwimRun, we've recently started stocking a whole range of SwimRun wetsuits and accessories from the popular HEAD range. The sport is so new that the first SwimRun wetsuits only appeared as recently as 2014. HEAD are the forerunners and leaders in this field. You can find some excellent tips on how to choose a SwimRun wetsuit, and a breakdown of the technical features you should be looking for on the LoveSwimRun.co.uk website.
