Europe's fastest elite swimmers are putting the finishing touches to their preparation for the biggest meeting of the summer next week.

The 2018 European Swimming Championships will be held over seven days from August 3 to August 9 at Glasgow's Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

For the first time ever, it is part of a combined European Championships across seven sports, with the aquatics division incorporating swimming, diving, open water swimming ans synchronised swimming.

Britain's squad are preparing to do battle with the best in Europe, and are relishing the opportnity of competing on home territory.

Alys Thomas, who won Commonwealth Games gold in the 200m butterfly at the Gold Coast earlier this year, explained why it is shaping up to be such an exciting championship.

"I'm looking forward to the Europeans being a home games and appearing in front of a home crowd," said the 27-year-old.

"It will be the first time I've been back to compete at Glasgow since the 2014 Commonwealth Games and it will be great to go back. It's amazing to be back in front of a home crowd and it's always great to hear that extra bit of noise when you are in front of them.

"Getting that little bit extra oomph behind the blocks will be great. We’ve got such a great range of ages and abilities in our squad at the moment. There's younger swimmers coming through and older ones kicking around so it's a really great spread across the whole team."
