Another athlete on the road to Rio!
Coralie Balmy secured her place in the Rio Olympics (becoming French national champion along the way) wearing the Adidas Adizero XVI Freestyle Tech Suit on Wednesday with a time of 4'05''38 in the 400m freestyle at the French national championships in Montpellier.
Hundreds of elite swimmers around the globe currently have their sights on Olympic qualification. Over the next few weeks, athletes will be trying to hit the qualifying times in order to be able to represent their country at the biggest sporting event in the world!
The French swimmer is the first Adidas athlete to qualify in the new racing swimsuit. She displayed confidence during interviews the day before, and it was not misplaced! Balmy had a fast start to the race (first hundred meters 58''35), and won the event, making her French national champions and giving her a qualifying time for the Olympic games. But she's not just looking to compete, she's got her sights on the medal podium!
Balmy discuss her third and last Olympics with the desire to "do everything possible to win a medal." "I have the ambition to be in Rio, but if I did not medal, I would not be disappointed." On Wednesday night, she simply wanted to not be alone in having passed the minimum qualifying time.
Her PB time in the Adizero XVI is 04:04.39 which puts her on rank 2 currently in the world behind Katie Ledecky.
The Adidas Adizero XVI is on sale now at ProSwimwear, with both the Freestyle and Breaststroke versions of the suits now in stock.
